Heidi Parkes: Improvisational Piecing and Handquilting
February 3-5, 2017

Class Description: Join Heidi Parkes for a weekend of piecing and hand quilting. Students will begin by finding an inspiration- a vintage textile, favorite painting, or even a memory. Parkes will share her approach with a trunk show, and then consult with each student as they begin their individual quilt top. On Sunday, students will learn how to hand quilt with thick thread, and head home to finish their quilting.
Parkes is a graduate from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and an artist in many mediums. At QuiltCon 2016 she won 1st place for Handwork and 2nd place for Improvisation. She will be an instructor at QuiltCon 2017. Her quilts are all hand quilted, and incorporate a variety of techniques and approaches from world traditions such as: Native American, African American, Japanese sashiko and boro, and Korean hand piecing. Parkes emphasizes handwork, natural and repurposed materials, and meaningful concept in her quilts and teaching.
Join the weekend to discover your creative voice, and make a quilt that’s meaningful for you.
